Forest City School for Strings:
Bursary Program 2025-2026
The purpose of the Bursary Program is to offer financial awards to help those children whose families are unable to pay the complete program fee. Applicants must be able to contribute a portion towards their fees to be eligible. This particular bursary program is for the 2025-2026 season. Each year the Board determines the funding available for the Bursary Program based on donations from local citizens, NOT from government grants.
To apply for the Bursary Program, the following must be completed by Tuesday, October 5, 2025:
Complete the 2025-2026 Bursary Application, found below
A letter explaining the necessity for financial assistance
A copy of your 2024 Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency
After the adjudication, each applicant will be informed of the decision of the committee. Decisions of this committee are final and there is no appeal. However, an unsuccessful candidate could apply in a subsequent year of membership provided there is another such bursary made available. Bursary decisions will be made by October 26, 2025 and applicants will be notified by email. Applications received after October 5th may be considered, along with all previous applications, based on the availability of bursary funds.
An external Bursary Committee, of which none of the members are FCSS Board members, FCSS contract workers, parents or relatives of current or incoming students, will review Bursary Applications and letters. Applications will be assessed based on the family’s current financial need and availability of Bursary funds. This process will remain confidential and only involve the Bursary Committee and the Treasurer of FCSS.
All successful bursary applicants are required to contribute to the organization through volunteer service. Recipients agree to participate in a minimum of 5 weeks during the 2025-26 program year. Volunteer activities may include welcome desk or snack table or other tasks that align with the organization’s mission. This commitment fosters a spirit of reciprocity and ensures that bursary recipients actively contribute to the growth and sustainability of the organization, and allow FCSS to keep costs low by saving on additional staff.
If you have any questions, please contact FCSS’s treasurer, Ellen Yamanaka.
